** DEWI BLOOR **
1. I am committed to ensuring that every student’s voice is not only heard but also acted upon. As a confident, determined, and resilient leader, I will establish clear and accessible channels for feedback, including regular drop-in sessions, surveys, and online forums. I will actively engage with students across the Faculty of Education, ensuring their concerns and ideas are communicated effectively to university leadership.
Transparency is key—I will provide regular updates on the progress of student-led initiatives, demonstrating the tangible impact of their input. By fostering open dialogue and collaborating with university staff, I will work tirelessly to implement meaningful changes that enhance the student experience.
Ultimately, my goal is to create an environment where students feel valued, engaged, and confident that their feedback directly influences positive improvements. Their voices will drive my work, and I will champion their needs with passion and dedication.
2. In times of financial pressure, student support services must remain a priority to ensure every student has the resources they need to succeed. As a confident, determined, and resilient advocate and current student, I will work closely with university leadership to protect and enhance these services by ensuring efficient allocation of funding and promoting cost-effective initiatives.
I will actively engage with students to understand their needs, using their feedback to push for targeted improvements. Transparency is crucial—I will ensure students are aware of the support available, from financial aid to mental health resources, through clear communication channels.
Additionally, I will campaign for increased partnerships with external organisations to provide additional support at minimal cost to the university. By championing student well-being and accessibility, I will ensure that all students feel supported, engaged, and confident in the services available to them, regardless of financial constraints.
3. Student well-being is a top priority, and I am committed to fostering a culture where mental health is openly discussed, supported, and prioritised. As a confident, determined, and resilient leader, I will advocate for increased accessibility to mental health services, ensuring timely support for all students.
I will work closely with university staff to expand peer support networks, encourage mental health training for staff and student leaders, and promote awareness campaigns that challenge stigma. Regular well-being check-ins, safe spaces for discussion, and collaboration with external mental health organisations will strengthen both on-campus and off-campus support.
Additionally, I will ensure students are well-informed about the services available, making mental health resources more visible and accessible. By creating a university culture that prioritises well-being, I will empower students to seek support when needed, fostering a more engaged, confident, and resilient student community.
4. Placements are a crucial part of an Education student’s journey, and I am committed to ensuring they are high-quality, well-supported, and beneficial for professional growth. As a confident, determined, and resilient advocate, I will work closely with the university to strengthen partnerships with schools and educational settings, ensuring a wider range of placement opportunities that align with students’ needs and aspirations.
I will push for clearer communication between students, placement providers, and the university, ensuring expectations are well-defined and support is readily available. Expanding pre-placement preparation, including workshops, more ITAP opportunities, and mentoring schemes, will help students feel more confident and capable before starting their placements.
Additionally, I will advocate for enhanced well-being support during placements, including regular check-ins and accessible guidance for those facing challenges. By ensuring placements are enriching and well-supported, I will help students thrive in their training and future teaching careers.
